Special Project: The Great American Horse Drive - Open gallery for artist statement at bottom.

In May, the Great American Horse Drive makes its way through Maybell, CO.  300 to 600 horses are driven from one ranch to another in Moffat County.  Each year, Sombrero Ranches hosts the 2-day drive over 62 miles of ranch country terrain.  People from around the world saddle up to drive horses from a ranch near Browns Park to their summer pasture about 12 miles west of Craig.  About 50 people assist with the extravaganza, and those who make the entire trip, get a Gate-to-Gate buckle when they complete the drive.  About 95 percent of the participants are awarded the buckle.

The drive started in 1959.  2019 marked the 60th anniversary of the drive and it gains in popularity each year.  Participants pay nearly $2,500 to Sombrero Ranches for the wild west experience. It is the experience of a lifetime.
